Summer Nostalgia

I was eating cherries today. Good cherries but I soon found myself bored with them. I thought about my favorite fruit, the "Duhat." These little purple berries or plums of the tropics used to be my signal that it would soon be summer time! Duhats are a bit smaller than cherries and just as sweet. The kicker--we eat them with salt . Is that strange? I dont know. Maybe berries with salt is as atypical as eating avocados with sugar.

While growing up in the Philippines , I only knew of avocado being eaten as a dessert as in an avocado shake - with milk and sugar. Boy, was I surprise to find that there was such a thing as Guacamole. I had never thought of putting salt and avocados together, much less putting avocados in between two pieces of bread!

What I do like to eat with bread is Ice cream! Yes, cheese ice cream in a hamburger bun. YUM! I have to admit, that does look a little strange, but I think it's great. You can skip the bun, but if you don't already like it, please try some cheese ice cream. It's my favorite flavor!

To learn more about foods of the Philippines, check out this clip of "Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmerman." Philippines episode Sige, until next time...

Maybe I'll try having cherries with salt tomorrow :)
